Recording dedicated to the memory of Gianni Lenoci (1963-2019), pianist, composer and professor at the Monopoli Conservatory. The CD was recorded in Noci (Bari) on February 19, 2023 at the Vinyl Sound recording studio, mixing by Niki Intini. All the compositions are by I Paesani except Finale and Carolina (Gianni Console), Bells And Vertical Thoughts (Vittorino Curci) and Al Olvidar Un Sueño (Adolfo La Volpe). We repropose here a brief and enlightened text by Gianni Lenoci, published in an interview given to Jazz From Italy and reproposed by Percorsi Musicali in 2011: "From my point of view, the majority of Italian and non-Italian jazz musicians (especially the more in sight and which therefore should be an example) does not play jazz but simple pop music. Or at least they use jazz procedures to improvise ornaments on ditties and the like. But the aesthetic result (and also the ethical attitude, why not?) is close to pop. In reality, all this does is celebrate the lack of love and the extinction (of jazz). I defy anyone to prove otherwise. I perfectly understand that this pop formula is profitable in economic terms, but I think it is limiting from the point of view of one's aesthetic research and the contributions that can be made to this Art. The important thing is that each river flows in its own bed. I understand that postmodernism has contributed to mixing "high" with "low", but now more than ever I believe that we must become aware of the limits of this vision. On the part of many there has been a sort of collective removal towards jazz in its research component, or in any case there is an uncritical attitude towards history. If the last Coltrane (just to give an example) brought language to a certain area 40 years ago, perhaps it is appropriate to reflect on it and not remove everything as if it had been the dream of a crazy visionary. The social value of an artist lies in her right to be esoteric".
